Tracks Magazine
Notes From the Nullarbor: The Final Fight for the Bight
The publication
If you’re a surfer or ocean lover in Australia, you’ve heard of the iconic Tracks Magazine. It’s been in print since the 70s and has shaped Australian surf culture.
The project
Not so much a project, but more of a this-is-a-fun-and-meaningful thing to do. Long story short, I made friends with the legends at Surfers for Climate, offered up some time to write about the Final Fight for the Bight, then it got picked up by Tracks Magazine.
It’s a story about the time my conservative Dad and I crossed the Nullarbor in my Toyota Hiace, looking for waves (me) and the world’s longest golf course (him). But more importantly, it’s a story about the Final Fight for the Bight and how standing together to make the Great Australian Bight a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fight that crosses political lines.
Tone of voice
Mine (how rare! How fun!)
